Judy DeGan

Judy Degan is an Indiana Artisan from the Carmel area. Her business name, Piece of my Peace Pottery, expresses her joy of working with clay. She says, “There is something very soothing about feeling the clay under my fingers and responding to my touch. I like that I can share my peace through my creations.”

Judy has always loved art, but it wasn’t until her children grew older that she was truly able to pursue ceramic artwork. Most of her own instruction was through the Indianapolis Art Center where she now teaches both adult and teen classes. Peace of my Peace Pottery has participated in many area shows including Broad Ripple Art Fair, Penrod, and Talbot  Street, as well as some regional shows for the last 15 years. Juniper Art Gallery is proud to represent her artistry in Bloomington, IN.

About Stoneware Pottery
Judy works in stoneware clay and fires to over 2300 degrees in a gas reduction firing. The resulting work is functional and beautiful. Her work is food safe and lead free. It can be washed in the dishwasher, and is microwave safe, but note that stoneware will retain heat, so use caution when removing her work from the microwave. Most important to know is that all stoneware is subject to thermal shock. This means you should heat your stoneware up with the oven rather than placing it in a preheated oven. With these few cautions, you should be able to enjoy your pottery for many, many years!
