Anne-Karine Bley

Anne-Karine Bley is a representational painter based in Bloomington, Indiana. She holds a B.F.A. in Painting and a B.A. in Art History from Indiana University, where she developed a practice rooted in direct observation and the pursuit of simplified, strong compositions. She is known for this structured approach to the canvas, placing a particular emphasis on the simplification of design elements to achieve visual clarity and impact.

Fueled by a lifelong passion for natural spaces, Anne-Karine paints en plein air whenever possible, participating regularly in regional paint-outs. As a native Hoosier, her work is a sentimental tribute to the land; her motifs honor both the rolling hills of her current home in Southern Indiana and the windswept shorelines of her childhood near Lake Michigan and the Indiana Dunes. These outdoor references often inspire studio paintings that explore the nuanced interplay of shadow patterns and color.
