In Rhythm with the Seasons
Joanne Shank enjoys the Southern Indiana seasons, and she paints in sync with each season.  Nature is always changing - the light, the wind, the moisture. Trying to keep the fluidity and freshness in the painting is important.  We are all mostly water which is why she finds watercolor to be the perfect medium. Her focus is mostly on local birds and their habitat.

Another style Joanne enjoys is sketching while watching and listening to musicians play their music. The rhythm and the flow of the music influence the lines, “It’s kind of like dancing on paper,” she says. Many sketches are created before the "right ones" are chosen, expressing the most in the least amount of line, in an effort to capture the essence of the moment.

Joanne has a Fine Arts Degree from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. She is a member of the Hoosier Artist Gallery in Nashville, Indiana, The Bloomington Watercolor Society, and Pillar Arts. She welcomes commissions.
