This exhibit of 18 paintings is a summery mix of flowers and landscapes to brighten your day and lift your spirits! Regional Artist, Kathryn J. Houghton excels with her chosen medium of acrylic paint. Her detailed paintings are vibrant and this exhibit brings to life a variety of images that draw one into her subjects, whether they beckon the viewer down a meadow path, or into the inner beauty of a lone flower, Kathryn's paintings are certain to celebrate and enhance our connection with nature!

Artist’s Statement:
“I really enjoy the challenge of seeing big landscapes and painting them small, and seeing tiny flowers and painting them BIG.  This is my way of freezing time and capturing the fleeting miracles in nature.  The details compel me to paint them.”

Juniper Art Gallery receives many comments on the acrylic paintings of Kathryn J. Houghton, asking how she achieves the quality of oil paints when using acrylic paints. So, we thought it a fun idea to have the artist give a demonstration and explain her technique!

Kathryn will share her background and journey as an artist and then demonstrate four different stages of her painting process on different sections of one painting.  She will describe the brushes and color mixing she uses to add layers and glazes to achieve textures and depth.  The artist will also talk about what inspires her and how she loves to bring her passion for nature to a canvas. She will also explain the stories behind many of her paintings in this beautiful exhibit, Landscapes and Florals…Loving Nature. 

She will happily answer your questions as well.
