MarySue Veerkamp Schwab:
MarySue’s artistic career spans more than fifty years. While she credits her education and decades in the field of painting as the foundation of her career, she says her father gave her that first creative spark. “My dad was my first instructor,” says MarySue. “He taught me the love of art and the joy of sharing my gift with others.” MarySue’s work has also been shaped by her travels with her husband, also an artist. Her paintings are held in private collections nationally.
Her educational journey began with a major in painting at the Art Academy of Cincinnati where she studied with Barron Krody, Stewart Goldman, and Bill Sontag. She has taken classes at the Art Students’ League with many accomplished artists such as Max Ginsburg, Ephraim Rubenstein, and watercolorists Fredrick Brosen and Michiyo Fukushima. Most recently, she studied under Chris Groves at Scottsdale Art School. MarySue is fluent in multiple media, including oil, watercolor, and pastel.
In addition to painting many commissions, MarySue’s career has included graphic design, storyboarding, and teaching K-12, university-level, and adult art classes. Currently, she teaches painting, drawing, and calligraphy at Ivy Tech, Bloomington.
MarySue is an active member of the Indiana Artist Club, Indiana Watercolor Society (Signature member), BCAA, NWS, IPAPA, BWS, NAWS. Mary Sue has exhibited at the Women’s Art Club of Cincinnati, Newfields/Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Brown County Gallery, the Indiana State Museum, the Richmond Museum of Art, and the HACC Midwest Show, among others.
William Schwab:
Bill credits his teachers, Max Ginsberg, Jerry Weiss, and Ephraim Rubenstein at the Art Students League, Barron Krody and Charlie Harper at the Art Academy of Cincinnati and Chris Groves at the Scottsdale Artist School, fellow Indiana plein air painters, and his life-long painting companion, muse and critic, MarySue Veerkamp Schwab, for guiding him on his painting journey.
The opportunity to work as a Creative Director in New York ad agencies on accounts including GE, BMW, McDonalds, and United Airlines, as well as serving as Professor and Director of the Creative Advertising program at Indiana University has given added dimension to his painting.
“I’m excited to create paintings that are an honest record of what I see with a vision that comes from a lifetime of study, travel, and creative exploration.”
Bill has exhibited work at Richmond Art Museum Exhibitions, T.C. Steele Outdoor Art Contests, Juniper Art Gallery, and IPAPA Member Exhibitions. He is a member of Indiana Plein Air Painters Association, Upland Painters, BWS, NOAPS, Hoosier Art Salon and Brown County Artists Association.
