Seasons at McCormick's Creek
Featured Exhibit at Juniper Art Gallery
13 Paintings by Grace (Butedma) Gonso
Juniper Art Gallery spent our first four and a half years in Owen County on the Southside of the Courthouse Square in Spencer, just 3 miles from McCormick's Creek State Park (the oldest State Park in Indiana).
We were fortunate to meet many park visitors during those years, and most fortunate to meet Owen County artist, Grace (Butedma) Gonso during our time in Spencer, Indiana.
We are thrilled to continue our relationship with this exceptional artist, and pleased to present her most recent collection of artwork through our new Bloomington, Indiana location. We hope you will come by to see this beautiful collection in person, and celebrate the incredible natural history and wildlife of Southern Indiana.
Artist statement:
In early 2023, I started working on a project creating paintings of McCormick’s Creek State Park throughout the seasons. Friends of McCormick’s Creek chair Vicki Basman and I hiked the park in February and developed some ideas together. The idea we decided to choose for my project was to make a calendar using the artwork that I created.
Then that spring a tornado hit the park and some of the trails were closed. None-the-less, I continued with my project. The collection was completed in September of 2024, and includes 14 oil paintings (one has since sold).
My artwork depicts nature’s beauty and its changes throughout the four seasons at the park. One painting shows the tornado damage and then the amazing rebirth of nature.
I enjoyed visiting the park every month to see the seasons transition from one to the next, while creating the “Seasons of McCormick’s Creek” artwork collection. I hope you enjoy this series of oil paintings as well.
