Diane Van Noord

Diane Van Noord is from Grand Haven, Michigan, a beautiful harbor town on Lake Michigan with sandy beaches and gorgeous sunsets.  She has been a painter for over 30 years, painting primarily in oils with the palette knife.  Her enjoyment and appreciation of the outdoors is captured in her landscape paintings with her love of color, shape, movement, and texture expressed her landscape, oil/cold wax, and mixed media paintings.

Over the last three decades Diane's award-winning watercolor and oil paintings have been accepted into more than 80 regional, national, and international juried exhibitions, and featured in the books The Best of Watercolor; How Did You Paint That? Landscapes; How Did You Paint That? Flowers and Gardens; and American Art Collector magazine; International Artist magazine; and Artists’ Magazine.  Diane's most recent awards are the BoldBrush Award for Abstract (2022), and a Finalist Award for Landscape from International Artist Magazine (2022). She has written and self-published a book on composition for painters that she uses with her private students and in her workshops.

Several professional artists have greatly influenced Diane through their work and art spirit.  William Herring, under whom she mentored for 5 years, was a profound influence on her as an artist.  She is very grateful for the art wisdom and encouragement he instilled in her.  There is a strong spiritual component to all her works, arising out of her faith and daily living experiences.

Diane offers painting workshops in her studio and public settings that help students learn, discover, and grow as both artists and persons.  Her workbook, “Art and Life Composition” is a starting point for this wonderful creative journey.  She also teaches privately in her Grand Haven studio and is also a certified personal life coach.

Artist's Statement
"I follow my heart in the studio, trust my instincts, paint with excellence as my goal, using my knowledge of composition to create works that challenge me in new ways.  My experiences of having painted landscapes with palette knives for many years continues to find new ways of expression.  And that makes me smile. I share with you this quote from Antoine De Saint-Exupery:

"And now here is my secret, a very simple secret. It is only with the heart that one can see rightly. What is essential is invisible to the eye."
