Debra Flagle

Debra Flagle is a life-long resident of Indiana. She enjoys traveling, especially to the Northeast, to find inspiration in nature.

An avid animal lover, many of her pieces feature woodland creatures native to the U.S., but she also enjoys capturing the beloved pets with whom we share our homes and lives. A self-taught artist, she began in acrylic and pastels, but her true love comes from oil painting. While canvases hold most of her works, she also enjoys the challenge and creativity that comes from painting on nature’s gifts, such as wood, stone, slate and gourds.

Although Debra is basically a self- taught artist, she has enjoyed attending classes from accomplished Indiana artists such as Ron Mack, Tom Slack, Donna Short and Wayne Campbell. Debra has received awards from the Indiana Heritage Art Gallery and the Rising Sun Art Gallery. She won Best of Show (2021) for her Abstract Owl painting at the Art Sanctuary in Martinsville.

Artist’s Statement: "Capturing the rich beauty of the nature all around us, which we often take for granted, brings me a peace found only through painting. I experience a deep sense of connection to that nature when I’m able to bring the scenes and beings of the earth into the homes and lives of others.”
