This transparent watercolor is breathtaking in its subtle colors and serene feel. It depicts a female cardinal perched upon the branches of an oak tree's withered winter leaves. Paul often said he felt the female cardinal was even more beautiful than the male because of her muted tones and striking presence. This was painted in 1989, during the height of the artist's long career (1940's through early 2000's).
The image size is 16"x21.75, and is double matted in the original copper-colored metal frame to 24.25x30.5" (frame is in excellent condition).
